Easter Market in Krakow 2026
Spring in Krakow is a time when history and tradition merge with nature coming to life. The year 2026 will be special in this regard – the Easter Market at the Main Square promises to be an event combining the craftsmanship of artisans with the modern organization of the city. If you plan to visit the capital of Lesser Poland during this period, we have prepared a complete guide for you.
When and where? Easter Market 2026 Schedule
The main phase of the market at Krakow's Main Square will take place from March 26 to April 6, 2026. Stalls will be open daily, usually from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
This year the organizers, including the Krakow Merchants' Congregation, focused on even higher quality. You won't find random goods in the Market – each of the approximately 80 exhibitors underwent rigorous selection. Polish products, artisanal and authentic handicrafts will dominate.
Cultural heart of the event: Key traditions
The market is not only about trade but primarily a living ethnographic spectacle. It's worth planning your stay to participate in key moments:
Palm Sunday (March 29)
This is one of the most colorful days in Krakow. At 11:15 AM, a colorful procession with Easter palms will set off from the Barbakan, passing around the Square to St. Wojciech's Church. From 10:00 AM, there is also a traditional Easter palm competition. This is an opportunity to see the craftsmanship of creators from Lipnica Murowana, who can conjure constructions of impressive size.
Holy Saturday (April 4)
At 12:00 PM on the Main Square, there will be a solemn blessing of food. This is a high-profile event attended by city authorities and church hierarchs. For tourists, it is a unique chance to see traditional "święconka" baskets in the heart of the historic metropolis.
Remember that on Holy Saturday most museums (including the Cloth Hall and Wawel) are closed to visitors.
Easter Monday (April 6)
On Easter Monday at 2:00 PM, Siuda Baba will appear in the Square. This archaic figure, dressed in soot-covered rags, roams accompanied by a Gypsy, symbolically smearing passersby with soot. According to beliefs, this brings good fortune and vital strength for the whole year.
Easter satellites: Emaus and Rękawka
Krakow's Easter extends beyond the Main Square. In 2026, two important returns await us:
- Emaus Fair in Salwator (April 6): After renovations are completed, Emaus returns to its historic spot at the Norbertine monastery (Kościuszki Street). From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, you can buy traditional figurines of "Jewish musicians", bells, and gingerbread hearts here.
- Rękawka Festival under Krakus Mound (April 7): On the Tuesday after Easter, it’s worth going to Podgórze. This is an encounter with early medieval tradition – you will see warrior battles (around 4:00 PM), blacksmith demonstrations, and a fire-lighting ritual.
Flavors and souvenirs: What you'll find at the stalls
The 2026 market promotes local brands. What is worth eating and buying?
- Gastronomy: Old Polish pierogi (with various fillings), oscypek cheese from Podhale, grilled sausages, and hot mulled wine served from wooden barrels.
- Handicrafts: Look for ceramics from Zalipie – famous for unique, hand-painted floral motifs.
- Workshops: Daily between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, you can try your hand at waxing eggs, scratching pisanki, or making paper flowers.
New parking rules 2026
In 2026, Krakow introduces important changes for tourists traveling by car. From January 31, parking reforms apply:
- Paid Sundays: In Subzone A (city center), parking is paid every day, including Sundays, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
- High fines: No ticket costs 400 PLN (reduced to 200 PLN with quick payment).
- Free days: Parking remains free only on the first and second day of Easter (April 5 and 6).
Public transport will operate according to special schedules. Trams on lines 13 and 50 will run every 15-20 minutes, but some bus lines may be suspended on holidays.
